Euro 2024: Spain win penalty shootout against Croatia after goalless draw

Spain progressed to the semi-finals of Euro 2024 after beating Croatia 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in normal time.

Substitute Joselu scored the winning penalty in the shootout, sending Spain through to a semi-final meeting with Italy on Wednesday.

Spain had the better chances in normal time, with Dani Olmo hitting the post in the first half and Pedri firing wide from close range in the second half. Croatia also had their chances, with Luka Modric and Ivan Perisic both going close in the first half.

The match went to penalties after extra time, with Spain converting all five of their spot-kicks. Croatia missed one of their first four penalties, allowing Spain to progress to the semi-finals.

Spain will now face Italy in the semi-finals on Wednesday, while Croatia will face the runners-up of Group A in the third-place play-off on Saturday.
